Return on Investment
To gain an insight into the ROI possibilities for the attached diagram, we must have additional information associated with the project.
The cost of a phone call between New York and Denver is $0.08 per minute. Between Denver and Dallas the cost is $0.06 per minute. Phone calls between New York and Dallas are priced at $0.05 each minute.
The next piece of information is the total usage or minutes of conversation between each location. The total amount of telephone time each day is around 15 hours. That breaks down to 300 minutes between New York & Denver, 250 minutes between Dallas & Denver and 400 minutes between Dallas and New York.
The cost per day for this amount of time on long distance is $59 a day. That breaks down to $24 for New York to Denver, $15 for Dallas to Denver and $20 for Dallas to New York.
Using this daily dollar amount over a six-month period provides a total expenditure of $7080. An investment of nearly this same dollar amount could purchase equipment and change the way calls are routed, thereby saving the LD charges.
Making a call or sending e-mail would cost the same. Looking at a two-year period, payout would be at about month 6 or 7 and after that the savings would be around $21,000.
